MCP servers for LibreChat
Local RemoteLibreChat, the open-source multi-provider chat platform, wires MCP servers into agents through the mcpServers section of librechat.yaml.
How to add an MCP server to LibreChat
- Edit librechat.yaml in your deployment.
- Add entries under mcpServers: command and args for stdio, or type and url for sse / streamable-http.
- Restart LibreChat, then add the server's tools to an agent in the Agent builder.
mcpServers:
filesystem:
command: npx
args: ["-y", "@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem", "/data/projects"]
example-remote:
type: streamable-http
url: https://example.com/mcp
The example uses the reference filesystem server. Every listing on mcp.site shows its own command, args and environment variables, usually with a ready-made snippet for LibreChat.
Because LibreChat is self-hosted, a local server runs on the LibreChat host, not on the user's machine.
Config formats change between releases. If a step looks different in your version, the LibreChat documentation ↗ is the source of truth.
