MCP servers for Continue
Local RemoteContinue, the open-source assistant for VS Code and JetBrains, plugs MCP servers into agent mode through YAML config blocks.
How to add an MCP server to Continue
- Open ~/.continue/config.yaml, or add an MCP block to your assistant on Continue Hub.
- Add an entry to the mcpServers list with a name, command and args.
- Switch the chat to Agent mode; the server's tools are available to it.
mcpServers:
- name: filesystem
command: npx
args: ["-y", "@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem", "/Users/you/projects"]
The example uses the reference filesystem server. Every listing on mcp.site shows its own command, args and environment variables, usually with a ready-made snippet for Continue.
Config formats change between releases. If a step looks different in your version, the Continue Dev documentation ↗ is the source of truth.
