MCP servers for JetBrains AI Assistant
LocalJetBrains AI Assistant and Junie consume MCP tools from servers configured in the IDE settings, using the same JSON shape as Claude Desktop.
How to add an MCP server to JetBrains AI Assistant
- Open Settings → Tools → AI Assistant → Model Context Protocol (MCP) and click Add.
- Choose "As JSON" and paste an mcpServers block, or fill in the command form.
- Apply. The server status turns green and its tools are listed; they are available in AI chat and Junie tasks.
{
"mcpServers": {
"filesystem": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem", "/Users/you/projects"]
}
}
}
The example uses the reference filesystem server. Every listing on mcp.site shows its own command, args and environment variables, usually with a ready-made snippet for JetBrains AI Assistant.
Works across the IntelliJ family (IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand and the rest) with the AI Assistant plugin enabled.
Config formats change between releases. If a step looks different in your version, the JetBrains documentation ↗ is the source of truth.
