MCP servers for Goose
Local RemoteGoose, Block's open-source agent, treats MCP servers as extensions. Add them with goose configure or in the desktop app's Extensions settings, over stdio, SSE or streamable HTTP.
How to add an MCP server to Goose
- Run goose configure and choose Add Extension.
- Pick Command-line Extension for a local server and enter the command, or Remote Extension and enter the URL.
- Start a session; the extension's tools are available immediately.
$ goose configure ┌ goose-configure │ ◇ What would you like to configure? │ Add Extension │ ◇ What type of extension would you like to add? │ Command-line Extension │ ◇ What would you like to call this extension? │ filesystem │ ◇ What command should be run? │ npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem /Users/you/projects
The example uses the reference filesystem server. Every listing on mcp.site shows its own command, args and environment variables, usually with a ready-made snippet for Goose.
Config formats change between releases. If a step looks different in your version, the Block documentation ↗ is the source of truth.
