Overview

Basalt is a Model Context Protocol server that brings design tokens, components, icons, and accessibility data directly into your AI assistant. It lets Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, and other MCP clients access and work with your design system as structured tools, making design decisions and component selection part of the AI conversation.

Basalt runs as a remote, hosted service at https://basalt.run/api/mcp. Simply point your MCP client to this endpoint with an API Key to get started—no local installation needed. The latest release is v1.0.0, published under the MIT license with full source code available in the basalt-run/design-system repository on GitHub.
