Smart Connections

Overview

Smart Connections is an MCP server that brings semantic search to your Obsidian vault by leveraging your vault's embeddings. Any MCP-compatible AI assistant can call Smart Connections directly to search and retrieve relevant notes during conversations or agent runs, letting the model decide when to use semantic search as part of its reasoning.

The server runs locally via the npm package @gogogadgetbytes/smart-connections-mcp and communicates with your MCP client over stdio. You'll need to set the VAULT_PATH environment variable to point to your Obsidian vault. The current release is v0.2.0, distributed under the MIT license with source code available at gogogadgetbytes/smart-connections-mcp on GitHub.
