Overview

PreClone is a Model Context Protocol server that lets you check what a repository would run on your machine — including open, agent start, and install steps — before you clone it. Any MCP-compatible AI assistant can call PreClone's tools directly within conversations and agent runs.

The server runs locally on your machine via the npm package preclone, communicating over stdio. Install it with npx -y preclone. No authentication is required. The latest release is v1.4.0.

PreClone belongs in the AI & Agents category and works with MCP clients including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, and others. If you maintain PreClone, claim this listing to verify ownership, earn the Verified badge, and keep information up to date.
