PowerBI MCP Server

Overview

PowerBI MCP Server bridges your Power BI environment to MCP-compatible AI assistants by exposing the PowerBI REST API. Query workspaces, datasets, and execute DAX queries directly from Claude, Cursor, VS Code, and other MCP clients — the AI model decides when and how to use these capabilities in conversation or agent workflows.

The server runs locally as a Python package installed via uvx powerbi-mcp. It communicates over stdio and requires three environment variables for authentication: POWERBI_TENANT_ID, POWERBI_CLIENT_ID, and POWERBI_CLIENT_SECRET.
