Overview

mail-index is a Model Context Protocol server that gives AI assistants local-first, read-only access to your Gmail. Search messages, retrieve contacts, browse threads, and generate digests—all through callable MCP tools. Since it runs on your machine and speaks the Model Context Protocol, your AI assistant can work with your email without you copying and pasting between apps.

The server installs locally via npx -y mail-index and requires no authentication to run. It communicates over stdio on your machine, keeping your data local and private. The latest release is v1.0.0, published under the MIT license. Source code is available at alunsoldantarctica/mail-index on GitHub.
