Overview

Github is a Model Context Protocol server that brings GitHub functionality directly into your AI assistant. It lets you list pull requests, browse issues, retrieve repository information, and search code—all through natural conversation with Claude, Cursor, VS Code, and other MCP clients.

The server runs locally on your machine using the npm package @davidweb3-ctrl/mcp-github-server, installed via npx -y @davidweb3-ctrl/mcp-github-server. You'll need a GITHUB_TOKEN environment variable to authenticate. It's published under the MIT license and maintained at davidweb3-ctrl/mcp-github-server on GitHub, currently at version v1.0.0.
