Overview

GEML is a plain-text document format built to be edited in place, with one section in and one section out. Any MCP-compatible AI assistant can call GEML's tools directly, letting the model decide when to use them in a conversation or agent run. The format enforces safe writes — bad edits are refused, protecting your documents from corruption.

GEML runs locally via the npm package @geml/geml, which speaks MCP over stdio on your machine. No credentials are required — it works out of the box. The current release is v1.8.8, available from geml-spec/geml on GitHub, where the project has earned 25 stars.
