Fhirhydrant

Overview

Fhirhydrant is a Model Context Protocol server that brings FHIR healthcare data systems into conversation with AI assistants. It provides SMART Backend Services authentication, response compaction, FHIRPath queries, and guarded writes—letting any MCP-compatible model safely interact with FHIR servers and decide when to use these tools during agent runs.

The server runs locally via npx -y fhirhydrant, connecting to your FHIR infrastructure over stdio. You'll configure it with three environment variables: MCP_TRANSPORT, FHIR_AUTH, and FHIR_SERVER_URL, along with API Key credentials.
