Exchange Rate API

Overview

Exchange Rate API is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server: Real-time & historical exchange rates for 160+ currencies, mid-market (Reuters/Refinitiv). In practice that means any MCP-compatible AI assistant can call Exchange Rate API's tools directly — the model decides when to use them in a conversation or agent run.

It runs locally: the npm package @exchangerateapi/mcp-server speaks MCP over stdio on your machine. Configuration happens through environment variables — you'll need EXCHANGE_RATE_API_KEY. The current release is v1.0.2, published under the MIT license, with source at Exchange-RateAPI/mcp-server on GitHub.
