EdgarTools

Overview

EdgarTools is an open-source SEC EDGAR toolkit available as a Model Context Protocol server. It provides 11 tools and 7 prompts for working with every filing type without requiring an API key. Any MCP-compatible AI assistant can call EdgarTools tools directly, letting the model decide when to use them during conversations or agent runs.

The server runs locally as the Python package edgartools, installed via uvx edgartools. It communicates over stdio and requires the EDGAR_IDENTITY environment variable for configuration. The current release is v5.21.1, published under the MIT license. The source code is available at dgunning/edgartools on GitHub, where the project has 2639 stars.
