Cortex

Overview

Cortex is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server: Local multi-client RAG server over the Model Context Protocol. In practice that means any MCP-compatible AI assistant can call Cortex's tools directly — the model decides when to use them in a conversation or agent run.

It runs locally: the Python package cortex-local-rag (via uvx) speaks MCP over stdio on your machine. Configuration happens through environment variables — you'll need CORTEX_KB_PATH. The current release is v2026.827.3, published under the Apache-2.0 license, with source at VBlackJack/Cortex on GitHub.
