Overview

Contextual is a Model Context Protocol server that provides persistent memory for AI coding agents through local-first semantic search, dependency graphs, and git history integration. It functions as a tool layer for AI assistants, enabling them to access and reason about your codebase context during development.

The server runs entirely locally on your machine via the contextual-engine Python package, installed with uvx contextual-engine. No authentication or credentials are needed—it connects over stdio and works immediately after installation. The latest release is v1.0.2.
