Contentrain is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server: Git-native content governance for AI agents — 24 deterministic MCP tools over stdio and HTTP. In practice that means any MCP-compatible AI assistant can call Contentrain's tools directly — the model decides when to use them in a conversation or agent run.
You can run Contentrain two ways: connect to the hosted endpoint at https://studio.contentrain.io/api/mcp/v1/{project_id}/mcp with no local install, or run it on your own machine via the npm package @contentrain/mcp. The current release is v3.1.4, published under the MIT license, with source at Contentrain/ai on GitHub.
Contentrain is listed under Version Control on mcp.site and works with any MCP client — Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed and the rest of the ecosystem — using the install snippets below.
