Overview

Code Index is a Model Context Protocol server that provides SQLite-backed hybrid code search combining vector and full-text search capabilities for Claude Code over MCP. Instead of manually searching and copying code between tools, AI assistants can call Code Index as a native set of tools to index and retrieve code intelligently.

The server runs locally on your machine via the Python package mcp-code-index, launched with uvx mcp-code-index. It requires no authentication and needs no external credentials to get started. The latest release is v1.0.6, distributed under the MIT license with source code available at achreftlili/code-index on GitHub.
