Citadel is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server: Encrypted-first embedded database with vector search and agent memory, exposed as MCP tools. As an MCP server it plugs straight into AI assistants, exposing its functionality as tools the model can invoke on your behalf.
It runs locally: the Python package citadeldb-mcp (via uvx) speaks MCP over stdio on your machine. Configuration happens through environment variables — you'll need CITADEL_KEY. The current release is v2.1.0, published under the Apache-2.0 license, with source at yp3y5akh0v/citadel on GitHub.
You'll find Citadel in the AI & Agents category here on mcp.site; it connects to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, and any other MCP client — see the install snippets below. If you maintain Citadel for citadeldb.dev, claim this listing to verify ownership, earn the Verified badge, and keep the details current.
