Overview

Basic Memory is a Model Context Protocol server that brings local-first knowledge management to your AI assistant. It syncs your thoughts and notes bidirectionally with large language models using plain Markdown files, letting Claude and other AI tools read, update, and reference your knowledge base naturally as part of conversations.

The server runs entirely on your machine via the basic-memory package, installed with uvx basic-memory. It communicates over standard input and output with no authentication required—just install and start using it.
