Backburner

Overview

Backburner is a Model Context Protocol server that lets you run long-running shell commands as background tasks. Start a command, continue your work, and collect results whenever you're ready. Any MCP-compatible AI assistant can access Backburner's tools directly, deciding when to execute background jobs during conversations or agent runs.

The server runs locally as a Python package installed via uvx backburner-mcp, communicating over stdio with no authentication required. It works out of the box with the current release v1.0.0, distributed under the MIT license with source code available at RohitYajee8076/backburner on GitHub.
