About Database MCP servers
Database servers let an agent explore schemas, run queries and, in some cases, write data through typed tools instead of raw connection strings pasted into a prompt. The category spans relational engines (Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, SQL Server), document and key-value stores (MongoDB, Redis), analytics warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, ClickHouse) and hosted platforms such as Supabase, Neon, PlanetScale and Turso that bundle auth and storage.
The best servers default to read-only mode, support row limits and query timeouts, and let you allow-list schemas or tables. Run them locally or inside your network where possible, give them a dedicated database role with the minimum privileges, and keep the agent on a replica for exploration. Official vendor servers usually track new features fastest.
